Makkah is the holiest, most sacred, and most honored place on earth. Its history is rooted in divine revelation, the legacy of prophets, and centuries of spiritual significance. The most authentic sources describing Makkah are the Noble Qur\u2019an<\/strong> and authentic Ahadith<\/strong>, which reveal both its ancient origins and its condition before and after the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa.<\/p>

Over the centuries, Muslim scholars documented the city\u2019s chronicles. Among the most notable works is \u201cChronicles of Makkah and its Ancient Monuments\u201d<\/strong> by Abu Al-Waleed Al-Azraqi, and the monumental writings of Imam Taqiyyud-Deen Al-Fasi Al-Makki (775\u2013832 AH)<\/strong>, who authored the renowned \u201cThe Therapy for Those Who Harbour Affection for the History of the Sacred City.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The foundation of Makkah is directly connected to Prophet Ibrahim (AS)<\/strong>. Following Allah\u2019s command, he left his wife Haajar (AS)<\/strong> and their infant son Isma\u2019il (AS)<\/strong> in the barren valley of Makkah.<\/p>

According to a narration in Sahih Al-Bukhari<\/strong>, Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that there was no water, tree, or human in Makkah at that time. When Haajar (AS) saw Ibrahim leaving, she asked several times:<\/p>

\u201cHow can you leave us in this deserted valley?\u201d<\/strong>
When he did not respond, she asked:
\u201cHas Allah commanded you to do this?\u201d<\/strong>
He replied, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/strong>
She answered with full faith:
\u201cThen He will never forsake us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

This moment marked the beginning of Makkah\u2019s divine history.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After Ibrahim (AS) made dua on a nearby hill\u2014
\u201cO our Lord! I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House\u2026\u201d<\/strong> (Surah Ibrahim 14:37)<\/em>\u2014
Allah blessed Haajar and Isma\u2019il with the miracle of Zamzam<\/strong>.<\/p>

The water flowed at Haajar\u2019s feet after she ran between Safa and Marwah<\/strong> seven times searching for help. Soon after, the tribe of Jurhum<\/strong> settled in the valley, and Isma\u2019il (AS) grew up among them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Isma\u2019il (AS) were later commanded by Allah to build the Kaaba<\/strong>, as stated:<\/p>

\u201cAnd when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House and Isma\u2019il\u2026\u201d<\/strong>
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:127)<\/em><\/p>

Another verse confirms the sanctity of this site:<\/p>

\u201cDo not associate anything with Me, and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf\u2026\u201d<\/strong>
(Surah Al-Hajj 22:26)<\/em><\/p>

A hadith narrated by Abu Dharr (RA) states that the Kaaba was the first mosque built on earth<\/strong>, followed by Masjid Al-Aqsa 40 years later.<\/strong><\/p>

Thus, the Kaaba became the first structure established in Makkah and the spiritual center of the world<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For generations, the descendants of Isma\u2019il (AS) upheld monotheism. But when Amr bin Luhayy Al-Khuza\u2019i<\/strong> introduced idol worship into Arabia, idols gradually filled the Kaaba.<\/p>

By the time of Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa, there were 360 idols<\/strong> in the Kaaba, as recorded by Al-Kalbi in \u201cThe Book of Idols.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

The well of Zamzam also became lost due to tribal conflicts and remained buried until the time of Abdul-Muttalib<\/strong>, the Prophet\u2019s grandfather, who rediscovered it after seeing its location in a dream.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A major event occurred when Abrahah<\/strong>, the Abyssinian ruler, marched toward Makkah with an army and a massive elephant to demolish the Kaaba. Allah destroyed his army, as described in Surah Al-Fil.<\/p>

This year became known as \u201cThe Year of the Elephant\u201d<\/strong>\u2014the same year the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa was born.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Makkah\u2019s status is unmatched. Allah made it sacred and secure from the beginning of creation:<\/p>

\u201cHave they not seen that We made Makkah a safe sanctuary\u2026\u201d<\/strong>
(Surah Al-Ankabut 29:67)<\/em><\/p>

Allah sent Angel Jibreel (AS) to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to mark the boundaries of the Sacred City. Later, the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa rebuilt the Kaaba, restored pure monotheism, and reinforced Makkah\u2019s sanctity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Makkah holds unmatched honor as:<\/p>

  • The birthplace of Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa<\/strong><\/p><\/li>

  • The land where revelation began<\/p><\/li>

  • The location of Cave Hira<\/strong>, where the Qur\u2019an was first revealed<\/p><\/li>

  • The direction of prayer (Qiblah<\/strong>) for all Muslims<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    The Prophet \ufdfa loved Makkah deeply and declared:<\/p>

    \u201cYou are the best of Allah\u2019s lands and the most beloved land to Allah.\u201d<\/strong>

    Allah multiplied the rewards of good deeds performed in the Sacred City:<\/p>

    • One prayer in Masjid Al-Haram equals 100,000 prayers<\/strong> elsewhere.<\/p><\/li>

    • Acts of worship like fasting, charity, and dua<\/strong> carry multiplied rewards.<\/p><\/li>

    • Hunting, cutting trees, and harming people within its boundaries are prohibited.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

      Allah says:
      \u201cWhoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allah, it is best for him\u2026\u201d<\/strong>
      (Surah Al-Hajj 22:30)<\/em><\/p>

      And:
      \u201cWhoever honors the symbols of Allah, it is from the piety of the hearts.\u201d<\/strong>
