🕋 How to Perform Umrah | Step-by-Step Guide by Pir Kafla Hajj & Umrah Services

Performing Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey — a chance to cleanse the soul, seek forgiveness, and renew one’s faith.

Here’s your complete step-by-step Umrah guide, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ and practiced by generations of believers.

1️⃣ Preparation Before Ihram

Before entering into Ihram, it is Sunnah to:

Trim your nails and remove unwanted hair.
Perform ghusl (ritual bath); if not possible, perform wudu.
Wear clean Ihram clothes — for men: two unstitched white sheets; for women: any modest dress that covers fully.
Apply itr (non-alcoholic perfume) before wearing Ihram (for men only).

🚫 Not Permitted in Ihram:

Underwear, stitched clothing, head coverings (for men), or covered footwear.
For women: wearing gloves or covering the face

2️⃣ Entering into Ihram (Meeqat)

When you reach Meeqat (the boundary for Ihram), make your intention (Niyyah):

اللهم إني أريد العمرة فيسرها لي وتقبلها مني
“O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah, make it easy for me and accept it from me.”

Then recite the Talbiyah three times (men aloud, women softly):

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْك، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْك، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. Truly, all praise, blessings, and dominion belong to You. You have no partner.”

Remain in this state of Ihram until your Umrah is completed.

3️⃣ Arrival in Makkah

Upon reaching Makkah Mukarramah:

Perform ghusl if possible.
Enter Masjid al-Haram through Bab-us-Salaam with your right foot first, reciting:
“Bismillah, Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad.”
Make du’a for mercy and peace as you enter.

4️⃣ Tawaf of Umrah (Circling the Ka’bah)

Before starting Tawaf:

Men uncover the right shoulder (Idtiba).
Begin at the Hajr-e-Aswad (Black Stone) — align with the green light.

Make intention:

“O Allah, I intend to perform Tawaf of Your Sacred House, accept it from me.”

If possible, kiss the Black Stone (Istilam); otherwise, raise your right hand toward it and say:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ
Tawaf Rules:
Walk seven rounds around the Ka’bah, keeping it on your left side.
Men jog briskly for the first three rounds (Ramal).
Recite duas, dhikr, or Quranic verses during Tawaf quietly.
Between Rukn Yamani and Hajr-e-Aswad, recite:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
After seven circuits, perform two raka’at Salah behind Maqam Ibrahim (if space allows) — Surah Al-Kafiroon & Al-Ikhlas are recommended.
Then drink Zamzam water with the dua:
“O Allah, grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and cure from every disease.”

5️⃣ Sa’ee Between Safa and Marwah

Proceed to Safa Hill:

Face the Ka’bah, raise your hands, and recite:
“Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah.”
Make du’a for your needs.

Walk toward Marwah Hill, and between the two green lights, men jog lightly.
This marks one round.
Complete seven rounds, finishing at Marwah.

6️⃣ Cutting or Shaving Hair (Halq or Taqsir)

After Sa’ee:

Men: shave (Halq) or trim (Taqsir) the hair from the entire head.
Women: trim about 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the end of their hair.

This marks the completion of Umrah.
You are now free from Ihram restrictions.
